PREREQUISITES | -Successful completion of an initial training course, approved in accordance with �18.7(f), within the twelve (12) month period prior to submission of the initial application, AND -Successful completion of both written and practicum examinations required by �16.5, AND -Compliance with the medical monitoring requirements specified in �13.13 AND at least one of the following: -Certification as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or other professional certification specified by the Department, OR -Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, physical or biological science, and completion of at least twenty (20) Comprehensive Environmental Lead Inspections, and at least five (5) Clearance Inspections, under the supervision of an Environmental Lead Inspector during any two (2) calendar year period in at least fifteen (15) different residential dwellings in Rhode Island, OR -High school diploma or GED, completion of at least twenty (20) Comprehensive Environmental Lead Inspections, and at least five (5) Clearance Inspections, under the supervision of an Environmental Lead Inspector during any two (2) calendar year period in at least fifteen (15) different residential dwellings in Rhode Island, and at least two (2) years of field experience in a related environmental field, including, but not limited to, lead, asbestos, radon, or other environmental remediation work, OR -High school diploma or GED, and completion of at least forty (40) Comprehensive Environmental Lead Inspections, and least ten (10) Clearance Inspections, under the supervision of an Environmental Lead Inspector during any three (3) calendar year period in at least thirty (30) different residential dwellings in Rhode Island. |

REFRESHER TRAINING | -Documentation of successful completion of the appropriate annual review course specified in �18.7 within the twelve (12) month term of their current valid certification -An expired certification may be reinstated within six (6) months after its expiration date provided that the application includes: -Documentation of successful completion of the appropriate annual review course, specified in �18.7, within twelve (12) months of the date of the reinstatement application, AND -The appropriate late renewal fee specified in �16.6 -An expired certification more than six (6) months beyond its expiration date is not eligible for reinstatement. A new initial application shall be submitted in accordance with �16.2. |
RECIPROCITY | There are numerous reciprocity agreements with EPA and other states with authorized lead-based paint programs. Your state may accept training for certification programs from those training providers accredited by EPA or other state authorized programs. Because reciprocity agreements are subject to change, it is strongly recommended that you contact your state's accrediting body before taking training from an outside source. |
