COURSE DURATION 40 hours
PREREQUISITES -Successfully complete and receive a course completion certificate for a lead-based paint inspector training course -Bachelor's degree plus 1 year experience in related field, OR -Associate's degree plus 2 years of experience in a related field, OR -High School diploma or equivalent plus 3 years of experience in a related field, OR -Professional certificate as an industrial hygienist, professional engineer, architect or related profession, OR -Registered nurse or registered sanitarian employed by a health department -Experience must be related to lead investigation. Related fields include lead, asbestos or environmental remediation, building trades, home inspections or construction
ACCREDITING BODY Wisconsin Department of Health Services
INDIVIDUAL APP REQUIREMENTS -$175 for one year -$325 for two years, not available for initial certification
INDIVIDUAL EXAM FEES Third party exam. $50 exam fee.
COMPANY APP REQUIREMENTS $75 every 2 years
REFRESHER TRAINING Eight (8) hours of refresher training must be completed every 2 years
RECIPROCITY There are numerous reciprocity agreements with EPA and other states with authorized lead-based paint programs. Your state may accept training for certification programs from those training providers accredited by EPA or other state authorized programs. Because reciprocity agreements are subject to change, it is strongly recommended that you contact your state's accrediting body before taking training from an outside source.

NOTES -For the total of 40 hours needed for initial training, individuals may take an 8-hour lead sampling course plus a 16-hour lead inspection course, plus a 16-hour hazard investigation course, plus XRF manufacturer's training -OR, out-of-state 24 hour lead inspector course plus a 16-hour lead risk assessor course, plus XRF manufacturer's training -ALL lead investigation activities may be performed by the Lead Risk Assessor.
