IA - Lead Certification - Lead-Safe Renovator

DISCIPLINE Lead-Safe Renovator (Renovation, Repair, and Painting)
COURSE DURATION 8 hours
PREREQUISITES None
ACCREDITING BODY Iowa Department of Public Health
INDIVIDUAL APP REQUIREMENTS $60 annual fee
INDIVIDUAL EXAM FEES 25-Question Course exam, 80% passing score
COMPANY APP REQUIREMENTS Firms must register with the Iowa Department of Health. There is no fee at this time.
REFRESHER TRAINING Refresher training (4 hours) is required every three (3) years from date of cert expiration for individual certification.
RECIPROCITY There are numerous reciprocity agreements with EPA and other states with authorized lead-based paint programs. Your state may accept training for certification programs from those training providers accredited by EPA or other state authorized programs. Because reciprocity agreements are subject to change, it is strongly recommended that you contact your state's accrediting body before taking training from an outside source.

NOTES -Certified Renovators cannot conduct paint-chip sampling. -Interior de minimis for using lead-safe work practices is 1 sq. ft. -Must use the How to Protect Iowa Families brochure for pre-renovation notification and education -Additional prohibited practice: Uncontained water blasting of lead-based paint -Additional prohibited practiced: Dry scraping or dry sanding of lead-based paint except in conjunction with the use of a heat gun or around electrical outlets -Maximum fee for violations is $5,000
